One month post-op

If you would have asked me if I'd feel this great one month after surgery, I probably would have laughed. Now it is hard for me to remember that I actually had surgery! Something amazing happens between the 3rd and 4th week out - you seem to regain so much. I have 2 more weeks of hip precautions to follow so I do have to pay attention. But I haven't needed my crutch/cane for 5 days now - I'm on my own!!

Really, the thing that lets me know that I had surgery is that I have NO pain anymore. I still can't quite get my brain around it but I'm getting closer. I love being able to walk and will never take it for granted again.

The snow has melted quite a bit and I was able to go walking downtown for a few hours. I even looked at a new mountain bike!

Wow, thanks for sharing your story!
I am glad to hear your hip is doing so well. I will need this surgery soon so I like reading peoples good reports!

Where did you get those cool crutches? I might get some...

I had the same experience - so many people were willing to share their story with me, so I hoped that my story could help someone else.

The crutches came from the doctor's office - they are called Walk Easy - made in France. I think there is more info on the crutch if you'd like more.

Oh, Denise - this was like reading a juicy novel! Just what the doctor ordered! You have managed to inject some humor along with your fears of surgery... Your trip through the airports, I can just see it now!! I AM A PEOPLE WATCHER!! :) Seriously, I am so glad to hear you had such a wonderful experience and that your hip is better than new! Just can't imagine walking without limping. Couldn't ask for more could we? (My in-laws tease me and imitate me at times...not so humorous anymore!!)

I know what you mean about the Lovonox shots. I was diagnosed with a blood clot in January and had to have Lovonox shots 2x/day for 10 days. I was starting to get teary-eyed on my way into the clinic on those last few days...the clot is holding me up from moving ahead on the hip surgery. I guess I have to wait for at least 6 months. However, I sent my x-rays and questionaire to Dr. Rogerson yesterday. I'll keep you posted.

We (hubby and me) sold our house (Minnesota), closing on May 2nd and were planning to go straight to surgery and then move to Portland Oregon where all 3 kids have migrated and plan to stay. So now we just don't know which end is up!! In addition to all that, my mother-in-law was admitted into hospice a couple days ago.

Sounds like I should be starting my own blog!! Thank you so much for all your kind words and support! I'll continue to look for you in Surface Hippy... Again - THANK YOU! :)

Hi Deb! Please keep me posted on your plans and what happens with Dr. Rogerson. If you pass through Montana on your move west, please get in touch with me, we'll have a surface hippy meeting - western division!

Let me know what happens, I'll be thinking about you.

Thanks denise, I should be able to find it now that I know the name. I might need them soon the way I have been walking lately!
